"Bar S-Otto" is a play on Italian words. Sotto means "under" or "under the stairs" — exactly where the bar is, hidden in the basement of a Restaurant. Otto means "eight" in Italian — a number considered lucky in China, as many of you know. That's why they offer 8 classic cocktails and 8 rotating signatures, which will change regularly.
The space itself is undeniably sexy — featuring 8 mirrors, 8 spotlights, and 8 ceiling lights. In this bar, details are everything. The venue is divided into two distinct areas: the main cocktail space, centered around a unique omakase-style bar counter, wrapped in minimalist design and great energy. A more intimate lounge area, with pink marble tables and a curated selection of fine whiskies. At Bar S-Otto, the most important ingredient is their guest. Filippo Sanchi, co-founder of the bar, poured a lot of energy into creating a real community, and into turning moments into memories. That's been his mission since the beginning of his career, and he still believes it's the key to any great bar's success and at the same time the most poorly made in most bars.
The cocktails reflect a minimalist and refined philosophy, where every element — from the glass to the ice, the texture to the aroma — is thoughtfully considered. You won't find flashy garnishes or trendy ingredients here, but rather bold, clean, and beautifully balanced flavors — never too sweet, never too sour. Filippo set out to create a bar with high standards that still feels approachable — and that's why their cocktails are all priced at just 88 RMB. (Yes — once again, "Otto" means eight.) S-Otto is the bar for everyone: couples, big group, cocktails lovers, fashion lovers, tinder dates, private parties, it is an international place: once you step in, you will find yourself into another world with people coming from anywhere, from New York to London, from Milano to Sydney and of course hidden somewhere in the magic city of Shanghai, which for Filippo is the most beautiful city in the world.
