The Italian Chamber of Commerce in China (CCIC) is pleased to invite you to an exclusive Talk with Alicia García-Herrero (Chief Economist for Asia Pacific at Natixis, Adjunct Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, member of the Advisory Committee for Economic Affairs of the Spanish Government and advisor to the Hong Kong Monetary authority's research arm) and Xiaowen Tan (Associate Professor at Shanghai University of International Business and Economics), preceded by the CCIC Members Meeting of Eastern China, with the presentation of the Newly Elected CCIC Board of Directors. The event will be held on Tuesday 9th June 2026, starting at 16:30 in Shanghai.


Why participate?

This event will offer attendees a valuable opportunity to gain deeper insights into the current geopolitical and economic landscape, with particular attention to the priorities and strategic directions of China's 15th Five-Year Plan. The insights provided by the two guest speakers, Alicia García-Herrero and Xiaowen Tan, will focus on the evolving dynamics of US-China relations and their impact on global markets and international business. In addition, Xiaowen Tan will provide an in-depth analysis of the policy framework and development priorities of the new Five-Year Plan, with a particular focus on Shanghai and the Eastern China region. The event aims to provide practical insights to help Chinese and Italian companies operating in China better understand evolving market trends, identify emerging business opportunities, and strategically position themselves within China's future economic landscape.

About Xiaowen Tan

Dr. Xiaowen Tan is an Associate Professor at the WTO Chair Institute-China, Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, with a solid academic background in law and rich research experience in international economic law and digital trade governance. She is the member of the World Trade Organization Law Research Society of the China Law Society and European Law Research Association. She earned her LL.B. in Economic Law from East China University of Political Science and Law, minoring in International Economics and Trade, followed by an LL.M. in International Business Law and an LL.D. in European Law from the University of Helsinki, Finland. Her research focuses on WTO reform, EU competition law, data governance, and digital trade rules, with extensive publications in SSCI journals as well as leading Chinese core journals (CSSCI). She has presided over projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, by Shanghai Philosophy and Social Science Program, and by Ministry of Education, and provided high-level policy consultations adopted by central and municipal authorities.


About Alicia García-Herrero

Alicia García Herrero is the Chief Economist for Asia Pacific at Natixis. She also serves as Senior Fellow at European think-tank BRUEGEL and non-resident Research Fellow at National University of Singapore's think tank, East Asia Institute. She is currently an Adjunct Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Finally, Alicia is a member of the Advisory Committee for Economic Affairs of the Spanish Government as well as an advisor to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's research arm (HKIMR). In previous years, Alicia held the following positions: Chief Economist for Emerging Markets at Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), Member of the Asian Research Program at the Bank of International Settlements (BIS), Head of the International Economy Division of the Bank of Spain, Member of the Council to the Executive Board of the European Central Bank, Head of Emerging Economies at the Research Department at Banco Santander, and Economist at the International Monetary Fund. As for her academic career, Alicia has served as visiting Professor at John Hopkins University (SAIS program), China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai and Carlos III University in Madrid. Alicia holds a Ph.D. in
