Sardinia has obtained the recognition of a Unesco World Heritage site Su nuraxi of Barumini that is a complete example of prehistoric architecture; a Unesco Biosphere Reserve, the park "Tepilora, Rio Posada and Montalbo", which includes coast and interior of the island.

In addition to these awards, there are two other elements included in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Canto a tenore, the Sardinian pastoral songs, and the ceremony of the Candelieri, which is a old popular religious event.
